On a far more solemn note, we wish to mark the recent death of Bill Dyer.
Just over a week ago one of the staunchest advocates for the importance of the Napa Valley Wine Library Collection, Bill Dyer, slipped off this mortal coil. He died at home on Diamond Mountain on Saturday, April 18, 2026. A NVWLA Board of Directors member from 1997 to 2007, and member of its Library Committee throughout, Bill was a great asset to the organization, contributing a vigorously researched and caring opinion about all the organization's concerns, responsibilities and activities.
This year, at the 62nd Annual Grand Tasting, Sterling Vineyards poured a 1987 Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon made by Bill, who came to Sterling in 1976 as its cellar master and then its winemaker from 1985 until 1996. Bill went on to consult for several other wineries, in and out of state, as well as tending the vines and wines of Dyer Vineyard with his wife and teammate, Dawnine. It was a great honor and pleasure to have Bill's wine with us at the tasting.
